Turn failure into a stepping-stone to success. Face the failure directly and recognize that success is the destination and whatever failure you are currently facing is simply a step to get there. This will change your perspective as well as keep you moving on a productive path.
Seek advice and counsel for a new perspective.
I’ve never been able to understand why so many people are afraid to raise their hand and ask for help when they need it. The most successful people I know are the ones that actively seek advice and counsel from others. Anyone who thinks they know everything required to succeed in business and stay successful long term is kidding themselves. It is the very things that we think we know that keep us from learning what we should know.

When you start to feel like failure is possible, you must remove the negative voice from your head and replace it with positive affirmations about what you can and will do to change the situation. Yes, all these seniors somehow collectively “thought” I was insulting “The Village Idiots” – you guessed it -- by calling them morons.
Did you enjoy “The Village Idiots” last night? (AUDIENCE APPLAUSE) Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I’ve know them for years… I’ve known theses guys since they were morons.”
What I learned about elderly people is that they somehow “lose” the sarcasm gene once they age. Yes, I believe it will happen to all of us. (sigh)

Yes, that was their name. They juggled fire, machetes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bowling balls, and walked on stilts. Great guys, very amusing and good performers. FAST FORWARD to the next night when it was “my turn” to perform for these people.
What happened? I know that was a funny joke. And it was: for a younger,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hipper, crowd who got the sarcasm and play on words.

When I hit the stage that night I felt a little cocky because I came up with what I “believed” was a very funny opening line.

You see, seniors, don’t find this type of humor amusing. In fact, if it doesn’t sound like a joke to them they will invariably take it as face value.

One example is that one of my personal goals was to "play" more on the weekends. My clients, real estate professionals with expectations that assistants work extended hours, expected me to work on the weekends. I cannot play on the weekends if I am fielding phone calls and answering emails. Needless to say, I changed my niche soon afterwards.
Mistake #3: Undervaluing my services
Instead, look at the value you are giving to your clients and set your fees with that in mind. Take into account the expertise you possess that others do not. You can probably command a higher fee than those who provide general data entry or typing services.
Working and growing in a relatively new industry is exciting and some day I'll be writing about my first 'ten years' in business. But in truth, the reason why I was not happy was because my business wasn't in alignment with my goals.

In formulating my goals, the trick was that I had to set clearly defined goals or it would not work. Just saying "I want to make more money" didn't cut it. If I made $10 more this month than I did last month, then I would have achieved my goal but did I really accomplish anything? Instead, I set a clear financial goal of "I will earn X amount of revenue each month."
Mistake # 1: Not having a plan or setting goals
Lesson Learned: Put a lot of thought into what market you are targeting and make sure it fits your work and lifestyle.
The first six months after opening my business, I was working seven days a week and found myself at the computer at 3 a.m. more times than I could count. I was trying to find clients, figure out how to market my business, optimize my website, setting up my blog, it seemed as though I didn't have enough hours in the day (all you small business owners, I'm sure you can relate). The billboards have now been replaced with more gaudy advertisements, but without smaller boards or inspirational verses. Nevertheless, whenever I get to travel by that fly-over bridge again, or whenever I feel downcast or dispirited or despondent, I recall those powerful words that motivated me once,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and are etched indelibly in my heart:
I used to pass by this fly-over bridge to and from work while still employed as a call-center agent. Very visible from the top was a triangular billboard structure designed to present one face to the traffic coming up and another face when going down. The advertisements were for a Christian FM station, judging from the exhortations, auspiciously encouraging people to listen to inspired music. Smaller boards were posted below the main signs, each of which contains a popular bible verse. One of these quotes was “Come unto me, all you heavily laden, and I will give you rest”. It was after so many years, and having had a string of employments, including three years as an overseas contract worker, that I first encountered this technological marvel. The monitors were still black/white/green screens and some programs had to be typed in, and floppy disks or diskettes were necessary.
Technical progress very quickly made the personal computer very manageable and relatively inexpensive. Meanwhile, I was beginning to approach my silver years, financially challenged and in unemployed hiatus for quite a number of years. My back was on the wall! That was when I took notice of the recent upstart industry termed Call Center. The requirements seem to fit me: good English communication skills, able to work nights, and can get along well with others. Within six months I got employed, as technical support agent for an outsourced line of business that provides internet service in the United States.
“I am the Lord, creator of heaven and earth! Is anything too difficult for me?”
I stayed on for more than a year until pension requirements compelled me to tender my resignation. For some reason, the more common farewell pleasantry I received was that I “would not be forgotten”. Even the Site manager wanted me to comeback should I be able to go around the Social Security policy.
There was still a process it had to pass through before a decision on my case would be finalized, foremost of which was an interview with the Human Resources manager, yet to be scheduled some time later. It must have been a beam of light, or a flash of lightning, that struck my disoriented mind,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I stared at that sign until it vanished from sight. “Is anything too difficult to ask from the creator of everything?”, was the thought that kept popping up in my brain. Certainly none! I do not know if it is considered a prayer but I did silently wished for Divine control.

One of the most interesting ways that emotions unfold is through experiential imagery. This is a very special kind of imagery that arises from the mindful-awareness of an inner emotion. This is what makes it “experiential,” meaning that it arises from our inner intuitive experience, rather than as the product of deliberate visualization. The psyche thinks in pictures, not words, and uses imagery to organize memories and emotions. Experiential imagery is found at the core of all emotions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the feeling energy of an emotion is encoded in the detailed sub-modalities of color, shape,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], position, movement and other properties of the imagery. For example, the emotion of depression and anxiety is very often encoded in the color black; anger in red; the feeling of calmness is associated with green; and healing is associated with pink. Through mindfulness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we can uncover the detailed structure of this inner imagery, and in the freedom of mindful-consciousness, the imagery will undergo a process of transformation. Our inner innate intelligence, called satipanna by the Buddha, actually uses this experiential imagery to make changes that lead to the resolution of emotional suffering, called dukkha. The psyche is more than capable of healing itself if given the freedom of conscious awareness in which to change, and this is precisely what happens, when we sustain mindfulness and make the emotion of anxiety the very object of our mindfulness meditation.
This is the active part of mindfulness. However, we don’t stop there, because mindfulness also has a passive and receptive dimension, which allows us to respond, rather than react, to the experiences that we encounter. In that moment of recognition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we can choose to respond by forming a relationship with the emotion. This is the relationship of mindful listening and investigation. The power of simply being 100% present,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not reacting and not even thinking about the emotion that has arisen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is the heart of successful therapy. If you want to change anxiety or depression, you must establish this kind of relationship in which you allow the emotion to exist in the safe space of mindful awareness. We learn to just sit with the inner pain as you would sit with a friend in pain. When you have established this kind of mindful-relationship and provide a safe inner space around the emotion, it will respond by changing. As he focused mindfully on this inner picture, noticing the leaves and branches, his feeling of inner strength and security increased. The feelings were literally encoded in the green leaves that symbolized calmness, and in the solid branches that could support him. When he was asked to imagine visiting a supermarket, he imagined being there in that crowded and chaotic environment, but now protected by the awareness of his inner tree! He no longer felt the panic and anxiety associated with the unknown.
These two examples show the unique contribution that mindfulness training can make to facilitate successful psychotherapy for anxiety and depression. We are taught that we have to fix our problems and get rid of negative thoughts and feelings, but actually if we simply learn to be present with the underlying emotional energy that powers these reactions, we create the ideal conditions in which inner suffering will transform itself quite naturally, and under the healing influence of our innate intuitive wisdom-intelligence. The answer always lies within the problem; the trick is to learn to listen, and mindfulness is the perfection of this skill.
In another session of Mindfulness Meditation Therapy, a young man in his late twenties, wanted to overcome intense anxiety and sadness about an upcoming move, away from his home. He felt a general anxiety about the unknown and unfamiliar and this had intensified to such an extent that he would experience panic attacks in crowded places, such as the supermarket. When he focused mindfully on the felt-sense of this emotion, he noticed a black sphere in the middle of his inner visual field. As he continued to investigate this abstract image, he further noticed that there was a yellow layer on the rim of the black sphere. After further mindful-investigation, he was surprised to notice that a second sphere arose, but this was yellow on the inside and black on the outside. As he continued to focus on the unfolding imagery, yet a third object appeared, which he described as a “pink and fuzzy” cloud. When asked what needed to happen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the pink cloud enveloped the two black and yellow spheres, which eventually lost their rigidity and simply evaporated like a cloud of steam. This led to a tremendous upwelling of feeling of inner strength and calm. When he focused his attention back on the thoughts about the upcoming move, he noticed that the anxiety and sadness had become significantly less intense and he felt better able to meet the challenges that lay ahead.

One woman, had been experiencing chronic anxiety and panic attacks that led to a phobia of flying, which was a big problem for her, since she had to fly to Sydney on business. She came for a session of Mindfulness Meditation Therapy to work on her anxiety. I had her close her eyes and focus mindfulness on the inner feeling of anxiety, and simply watch to see what emerged. Within five minutes, she noticed the image of a dark, menacing black object that seemed to sit in front of her left shoulder. This was her inner image of her panic and anxiety. When she focused on this black object, she noticed brown tendrils that extended outwards to her throat, literally strangling her. I directed her to keep watching the scene and to ask the black object what it needed from her. To her amazement, it answered her with, “I want to be allowed to die.” She continued to be mindful and simply watched the unfolding scene, and in so doing, gave the black object permission to change,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and die. It did this very gracefully, transforming into a pile of white ash that eventually blew away. When she refocused attention on her anxiety and panic, she found that they had greatly diminished to little more than butterflies in the stomach. Interestingly, her fear of flying also subsided and she was able to make that trip to Australia.
Mindfulness as taught in Mindfulness Psychotherapy and Mindfulness Meditation Therapy, is a particular awareness skill that teaches us to be aware of what is happening while it is happening. Through diligent practice, we begin to recognize reactions as they arise form moment to moment throughout the day. We learn to respond to each reaction with the simple formula: STOP, LOOK and LISTEN. When a reaction arises we simply greet it with: “No. Not now. I choose not to go down that path.” In the very act of recognition of a reaction,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we are given a brief moment of choice about whether we want to react or not. The habit to react may be very ingrained, but through persistent mindfulness practice, we can open up this space in which there is choice and freedom, such that it becomes longer in duration and more frequent during the day.
Imagery is the natural language of the psyche and frequently arises during Mindfulness Therapy. When we observe this natural, experiential imagery with mindfulness, the imagery always changes in response to our attention. If we let it change, without the interference or distractions of the thinking mind, it will change in a way that resolves inner emotional suffering. Mindfulness, which is the alive-sensitivity to our present experience, allows us to uncover the experiential imagery at the core of our emotions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], providing a very rich medium for inner transformation and healing. In this rich inner environment of experiential imagery, the psyche finds ways to resolve inner suffering and conflict. As you set your goals and plan your ideal future, make a point of surrounding yourself with people who believe in you and who will hold you accountable for your actions.
Going it alone may be considered admirable by some who feel the need to declare, "I did it all by myself!" as though it were the ultimate demonstration of strength of character, however, it is by no means the best or quickest way to make your dream come true.
As you plan to create success in your life whether it be building a successful business, improving your financial situation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], optimizing health, etc.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], make sure you have a coach or someone on your success team to hold you accountable and keep you in action.

Over the past three weeks, we've received more than 100 cm of snow. Last night we received another major dumping that was formed into high drifts by powerful winds from the north. It was one of our coldest mornings this winter at almost minus 40 degrees with the wind chill.
It's even easier to just put something off altogether and say, "next time". We procrastinate by saying,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "I'll make twice as many tomorrow", or "I'll do it with twice the effort next time." And what happens? Anxiety is one of the most frequent reasons for clients entering treatment. It appears in combination with other symptoms, as well as appearing by itself. Many times people deal with anxiety themselves. Other times the anxiety is too great or cannot be sufficiently lessened or eliminated and the client goes for assistance. When our anxiety gets in the way of our or our family’s life help is necessary.
Deep breathing exercises,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], meditation and yoga may be helpful. Hypnosis, by a clinician with a Masters or Doctorate certified in hypnosis has been extremely effective. Addressing underlying issues in hypnosis or regular psychotherapy lowers the anxiety further. In therapy the focus is on us. We don’t need to worry about the therapists feelings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or whether they like us. We only need to focus on getting better.
When the anxiety is debilitating medication may also be helpful. In addition to the benzodiazapenes such as valium,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the medications known as SSRI’s have been effective for a number of people. Paxil and Lexapro are two of the medications clients of mine have found effective. They “corridor” anxiety and depression,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], allowing the client to feel all feelings but not feel “high” or “like a zombie”.
As I am not a medical doctor or psychiatrist, I have referred clients for medication evaluation, to see whether medication may be helpful. I do not meet with pharmaceutical companies, get paid or in any way financially gain from a client being on medication. I just look at it as an option; it’s there if it’s needed. We try counseling or hypnosis first, or in addition to medication, with the goal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if possible, of only using counseling or hypnosis. I say if possible because, for some, medication may continue to be necessary. Some people view medication as an enemy; I view it as a tool to be used if other methods with no side effects fail or are not lowering the anxiety enough. I am a realist.

Sometimes in treatment noticing our thought process and how it impacts us emotionally can be helpful. Making changes in our thinking and with our behaviors can help us to reduce and eliminate the anxiety,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Counseling can be an effective tool. It is important to realize that “no man is an island”, that we cannot do everything ourselves. If we are lost we need to ask for help; even though we know familiar areas, we can still get lost in unfamiliar territory.
Ultimately, as a therapist my goal is to make myself uncessary with the door remaining open if a client needs assistance in the future. Life presents different challenges at different times and it can be nice to know that another individual that understands is a phone call away.
At other times even though the anxiety may be illogical,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or “not make sense” it I still remains and does not respond to logical arguments. We may think about something obsessively,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like dying or storms and repetitively do something, such as washing or other compulsions as attempts to lower our anxiety. We may get overwhelmed, “feel frozen”, have a panic attack, or be afraid of having more panic attacks.
If and when that occurs seek medical attention first. Eliminating a medical cause is the first step for addressing problems with anxiety. Clients of mine that were referred had heart problems, digestive problems or thyroid conditions that were previously unknown or misdiagnosed. Other clients have had neurological or other medical problems that were the cause of their anxiety. No matter what, ruling out medical conditions is the first step.

For married couples they need to decide on their budget for entertainment expense.
I know some people have very strong feelings on this subject. But I know from helping so many people with there home budgets that this is a very large controllable expense. Let me know your thoughts and ideas.

I put my head down before my Beloved and ask for guidance and mercy; I ask for a new creation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to let go of my own knowing in exchange for a taste of Your Reality. I give thanks for the reality that You have made for me. I am truly blessed.
In turning to the gratitude,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my heart opened and my belly relaxed. Gratitude is a powerful opener. This was exactly what was needed for my being to let go of the pain and the memories and pictures that were holding the pain in place, and for my heart to open to receive the jewel of wisdom and the new knowing that God wants to give to me.
It turned out the knot had a lot to do with my fear of success,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and under that my fear of rejection and memories of the pain that I’ve experienced from rejection in my past. Painful to live with,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I know that having this come to my consciousness today means that God wants to give me a jewel of truth and healing, and this makes it easy to turn my attention away from the pain and toward the gratitude that I feel for this gift.
Then another voice: “But what if God asks me to step into a role and I’m not able to walk the talk? What if I mess up?” I felt the ever-familiar perfectionist that lives in my head; the one that judges my own every move. I woke up the other morning with a painful knot of gridlocked stress around my stomach. Great…that’s what we call a “fog” – a “freakin’ opportunity for growth”. Not so bad, though. It’s just an opportunity to trade out that knot for a gift of divine truth and grace,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that painful tension was the signal to let me know that this opportunity was coming. And it just so happened I had a healing session scheduled with a friend from Minneapolis. Perfect!
So all of the pictures that I’ve held in my mind about what is perfect and what is flawed have a new reality to contend with – the reality of perfection as a walking living work of art; a cycle of living,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], making mistakes, learning and receiving God’s grace.
As I was allowing the washing of the past and letting go of the pain, another little voice came in: “But what if I’m asked to be a messenger? I don’t want to be persecuted like Jesus or any of the prophets.” The message came in to my heart,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “Keep your eyes and ears and your heart on God. He is the Real; the other is not.” Well that’s simple. Which reality would you choose to live in? The reality of your heart when you are with your Beloved or the reality of the varied critics in the world that don’t even know you?
